The New York Rangers opened the 2011 NHL Premiere Challenge yesterday with a 2-0 shutout win over HC Sparta Prague. This is the seventh overseas venture in the organization’s history. Today the team headed to Gothenburg where netminder Henrik Lundqvist would participate in what was undoubtedly the biggest preseason game of his career. Not only did he guard the gate against the team he spent seven years playing with for the first time, but he also took shots (well, theoretically) from his twin brother and Frolunda captain, Joel Lundqvist. Hank made 32 saves and the Blueshirts snagged a 4-2 victory on Frolunda’s home ice.
